About Penny

Penny is a highly experienced and creative HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist with a positive approach to problem solving and a truly patient centred approach.

Penny is highly experienced in complex casework with clients with wide ranging needs and diagnoses. This includes clients with Stroke, Brain Injury, Spinal Injury, Motor Neurone Disease, Guillan Barré Syndrome, Encephalitis, Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness and Polytrauma including amputations.

She has specialist experience in rehabilitation, moving and handling, postural assessments, wheelchair provision, upper limb interventions and cognitive assessment and. Alongside this in Penny’s roles in both neurology and critical care she has developed key skills in mental health, using a trauma informed approach, through adjustment to illness and disability, as well as motivational aspects of depression and anxiety. Penny is a holistic practitioner who takes into consideration the physical, cognitive and mental wellbeing of a client within intervention plans.

Penny is also experienced with working with and supporting carers and is one herself. She can support clients and their families in adapting to disability and functional changes. Penny has in-depth understanding and skills relating to Mental Capacity and Best Interests Decisions, Safeguarding and Deprivation of Liberties and a comprehensive understanding of the importance of working within legal frameworks and legislation.

Penny is passionate about delivering treatment that meets individual needs and ensures that intervention plans are unique to the individual and their situation. She is very goal focused and ensures these are client and family led.

Due to Penny’s expertise in patient experience, she also has a strong focus on ensuring the needs of the client are met and that all clients feel valued and are communicated with effectively. Due to her passion for accessibility, she is also conscience of the need to ensure communication is in the way that suits the client and will adapt accordingly. She uses a range of communication strategies when working with individuals with cognitive impairments and/or communication difficulties to ensure effective communication with every client.
