Inclusion.Me, in partnership with the Royal College Of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section Independent Practice, are pleased to announce that this July we will be running a training day around the Care Act & other essential pieces of legislation; run by Michael Mandelstam and aimed at benefiting Independent OTs.

Background. This course aims to highlight topical and important legal issues as they affect the work of Occupational Therapists. The course is fully participative and inter-active throughout. Law is illustrated in a practical, down-to-earth manner. The approach of the course is a series of sessions involving discussion, questions and answers - and a series of case studies highlighting different points of law.
Overarching aims and objectives. Practical application of law to everyday occupational therapy decisions. The course highlights in particular: a) lawful decision making recognising rights and obligations, b) properly recorded, c) well-being of service users, d) successful integration and joint working, d) cost-effective use of resources, e) adherence to professional standards.
Issues covered. These include equipment, home adaptations, manual handling, risk assessment, mental capacity, assessment/eligibility, rehabilitation/reablement/intermediate care, professional standards and integrity. Within the following framework:

Michael Mandelstam provides independent legal training on health and social care matters. He worked previously at the Department of Health and before that at the Disabled Living Foundation. He has written many widely used legal books over a period of nearly 30 years including, most recently: Home Adaptations: the Care Act 2014 and related provision across the United Kingdom (for the College of Occupational Therapists, 2016), and the Care Act 2014: an A-Z of law and practice (May 2017).
