On 1 October 2007 the three equality commissions merged into the new Equality and Human Rights Commission:

• Commission for Racial Equality (CRE)
• Disability Rights Commission (DRC)
• Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC)

The websites of these commissions have also been incorporated into the new Equality and Human Rights Commission website: www.equalityhumanrights.com. The Equality and Human Rights Commission champions equality and human rights for all, working to eliminate discrimination, reduce inequality, protect human rights and to build good relations, ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to participate in society.

The former DRC has produced its final Annual Review, summarising its aims and achievements over the last seven and a half years. It highlights all of the policies it helped to implement and the changes in public opinion it helped to influence. The Review can be found on the Celebrating the Journey website established by the former DRC www.celebratingthejourney.org.

On this website you can also view short films illustrating some of the DRC’s past campaigns. Sir Bert Massie, Chairman of the former DRC said in a closing statement: ‘And I finish with a request. Give your support to the EHRC [Equality and Human Rights Commission]. Give it your knowledge, your ideas and your energy, as you always gave them to us. But also demand of it the same high standards as you always, quite rightly, expected of us.’
